First Renewables

First Renewables is leading our work programme looking at the potential for renewable gas developments and solar power. We aim to open the door for Aotearoa New Zealand homes, businesses, and energy-intensive industries to access lower emissions gas energy options in the future.

First Renewables is on a mission to accelerate the transition to renewable energy by leveraging the expertise and assets of Firstgas, Rockgas, Firstlight Network and Flexgas.   A great example of this is the development of New Zealand's first utility-scale biogas to pipeline project that will deliver renewable gas to customers in the region via Firstgas’ transmission pipeline network.

Partnering with Powering Change - for the future of Aotearoa New Zealand

The energy sector will play a key role in helping to reduce emissions which is why New Zealand energy companies, including Clarus, have teamed up to create Powering Change, a collective commitment to a more sustainable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.

Powering Change means continuing to make existing energy systems smarter and transforming them to be built around all customers. It means finding better ways to generate, store and use energy, and unlock the potential of technology to get more out of the current energy infrastructure.

Biogas offers a homegrown solution for New Zealand’s energy future

New Zealand is rich in renewable energy, but managing supply — especially during peak demand periods — remains a challenge. Fortunately, there’s a local solution that’s already gaining traction: biogas made from food and agricultural waste. By embracing a circular economy, where organic waste is recycled into energy and fertiliser, we can strengthen our electricity and gas grids, reduce emissions, and build long-term resilience — all while turning waste into value.
