Clarus is a company focused on doing right by our environment, our people and our communities. You can read about our hard work to improve our tiaki taiao or care for the environment in our newly published 2024 Sustainability Report

The Sustainability Report includes stories about what we’re doing to change the way we work to produce fewer emissions.

We are working towards reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 across international standards ISO14064 Categories 1-4 (Scopes 1, 2 and part of 3), as measured from our baseline year of 2019.

That’s a total reduction of about 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions between 2019 and 2030. In the 2024 financial year our emissions reduced 11.44% across Categories 1-6.

"As a leading energy company, we own and operate critical energy infrastructure assets"

“As a leading energy company, we own and operate critical energy infrastructure assets. Without energy, life as we know it would grind to a halt. With our position comes a responsibility to do better for our environment,” Paul Goodeve CE for Clarus said.

“While the majority of our existing assets and infrastructure remain in the traditional natural gas and LPG sectors, we are also looking to the future. The nature of some parts of our business means that producing emissions can be inevitable, but we are working hard to have a different, greener and more sustainable gas and energy business by 2050.”

The Report shares how Clarus is working to make a positive impact now and in the future. We have started flowing biomethane into a Firstgas gas pipeline in Reporoa and are working towards piloting a blend of hydrogen and natural gas in a gas pipeline in Te Horo, on the Kāpiti Coast, for the first time. We're also part of a joint venture with UK company, Harmony Energy to build the Tauhei Solar Farm that will generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of around 35,000 Kiwi homes.

Paul Goodeve, Clarus Chief Executive

“Personally, I want our world to not only be more liveable, I want it to be a little bit better for our kids and for Papatūānuku (the land),” Goodeve said.

“I am looking forward to Clarus building on the momentum of our achievements so far to play a leading role in working to deliver the country’s energy in a changing world.”
