Clarus welcomed Richie McCaw, former All Blacks captain and co-founder of the iSPORT Foundation, to our Bell Block site in Taranaki, as part of our partnership with iSPORT through the Good Energy Fund.
“Energy is what we do, but it’s people we do it for. Through the Good Energy Fund, we chose to support iSPORT because of the work they do to empower young people to participate in sport, no matter their circumstances.” said Paul Goodeve, Clarus CE

Richie began his visit with a tour of our operations, meeting the team in the Firstgas control room and measurement lab. This was followed by a relaxed meet-and-greet with our New Plymouth team and their children, who had the chance to ask Richie questions. True to form, Richie made every interaction memorable, each time a question was asked, he pulled an iSPORT rugby ball from a box, signed it, and tossed it to the lucky recipient. It was a rare opportunity to connect with one of New Zealand’s most respected sporting leaders, who shared insights from his time as All Blacks captain and reflections on the highs and lows of his sporting journey.
The visit wrapped up on a high note with a classic sausage sizzle and a lively game of touch rugby featuring Richie, the kids, and even a few enthusiastic parents.

Sharing leadership stories
The day before his visit, Richie joined our Clarus team via TEAMS to talk about managing pressure, building mental resilience, and the benefits of physical exercise - sharing stories from his extraordinary career. Drawing on his time as All Blacks captain, he offered practical insights on teamwork, leading through challenges, and what it takes to succeed in high-performance environments. Employees left inspired, with lessons that resonate both on and off the field.

Why this partnership matters
iSPORT believes all young people should have the chance to be active, access positive role models, and reach their potential.
As Paul Goodeve, Clarus CE, says: “Energy is what we do, but it’s people we do it for. Through the Good Energy Fund, we chose to support iSPORT because of the work they do to empower young people to participate in sport, no matter their circumstances.”
Richie McCaw adds, “Sport has the power to lift communities, break down barriers, and give young people a strong platform for the future. We’re grateful for Clarus’s support, which allows us to reach more young people in Taranaki and across New Zealand.”
Clarus funds will directly support iSPORT’s SPORTME TOO and ACTIVE KIDS programmes, helping children and teens join teams, stay active, and enjoy the lifelong benefits of sport. Sport builds confidence, connection, and resilience, qualities that help young people thrive at home, at school, and in their communities.
We’re excited the positive impact iSPORT will continue to have for young people throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
